Each claim goes into your books as soon as you submit it, so what you're owed is always up to date.
Your running total for the tax year is shown alongside the current rates, so you always know where you stand.
Mileage claims are part of your portal, with nothing extra to pay. Ask your accountant to switch them on for you.
Claims are made in your name at HMRC's approved rates. Your accountant checks each one before it's finalised in your books.
Business journeys, such as visiting clients or suppliers or travelling to a temporary workplace. Your normal commute doesn't count. If you're not sure, just ask.
The mileage rate you claim is the same whatever the car runs on. If you're VAT registered, the fuel element, which is what the VAT is worked out on, does depend on the fuel and engine size, and for an electric car on whether you charge at home or on the public network. Hybrids count as petrol or diesel. We work all of this out for you.
Not for the mileage itself. Your journey log is the record that matters, and the portal keeps it for you. If you're VAT registered, though, you need to send us your VAT fuel receipts to reclaim the VAT on the fuel element of your claim.
When you add the vehicle, tell us your company owns it. A company car is only reimbursed for fuel, at HMRC's lower advisory fuel rates, because the company already bears the wear and tear, so we won't apply the full mileage rate. If you're VAT registered, send us your VAT fuel receipts as well.
